The Verdict

If you're a solo player who loves flashy action combat and don't mind obsessive grinding, Black Desert is worth picking up during one of its frequent sales (often around $1), but go in knowing it's a deeply complex, overwhelming experience with aggressive monetization and very little meaningful co-op content. It's strictly for patient, self-sufficient players — if you're looking for a traditional group MMO or hate RNG-based progression, you'll likely bounce off it hard.
